Roofer in Round Rock, TX

On September 24, 2023, hail up to four inches across fell on Round Rock in a single afternoon. When a storm like that sends a whole street looking for a roofer at once, we start with a free assessment and dated photos, then handle the repair, the new roof or the claim paperwork for houses, rentals and multi-family buildings.

A City That Gets Hail Rarely, Then All at Once

Round Rock's hail record is unusual. Big storms are rare there, but when one arrives it hits the whole city in one afternoon, and out-of-town roofers start knocking soon after. We are a woman-owned roofing company with an Austin-area sales lead, and our job after a storm like that is to give you a clear answer without the rush.

  • A free roof assessment and written estimate.
  • Photos of the damage on each slope, tied to the storm date.
  • Repairs when the damage is limited, full re-roofs in asphalt, designer shingle, tile or standing seam metal when it is not.
  • Houses, rental homes, apartment buildings and commercial roofs, with one project manager per job.

Who Picks Up When Round Rock Calls Us

SunTex is owned by Leanne Tolbert and is 100% woman-owned and operated. Alex Keller is our sales manager for Central Texas and Austin, which takes in Round Rock. Once an estimate is approved, a dedicated project manager runs the job, and Beth Keller (operations) and Suade Sherman (office) keep the schedule and paperwork on track from our office in Frisco.

The Roofing Work We Do Across Round Rock

A Round Rock roof call can end in a small repair, a full new roof or a claim file for an insurer.

    Repairs, Re-Roofs and Multi-Family Buildings

We repair and replace roofs on residential, commercial and multi-family properties. In Round Rock that means a lot of variety: single-family houses from the 1990s through the 2010s, rentals whose owners live elsewhere, and apartment and condo buildings. If a repair will fix the problem, that is what we quote. If the roof is past it, we say so and show you why.

    Covering the Yard Before Tear-Off

Tear-off drops old shingles, nails and grit off every edge of the house. Before a re-roof begins, we cover flower beds and the property near the work area, as our own blog on roof damage describes. One customer review on our homepage, which names Alex Keller but no town, put it this way: "The entire crew protected our new windows, plants, AC units, garden structures and even pool."

Claim Paperwork Between You and the Insurer

Round Rock's big hail came on three days. If your roof was damaged on one of them, the claim depends on showing that. We photograph every problem we find and support insurance restoration claims with that documentation. The claim itself, and every decision on the policy, stays between you and your insurance company.

Three Steps Onto Our Round Rock Calendar

    Step 1

Phone or Form, Plus the Storm Date

Call (214) 766-3669 or send the form. Tell us the storm date if you know it, and whether a claim is already open.

    Step 2

We Inspect the Roof at Your Round Rock Property

We inspect the roof and photograph the damage, and you tell us what in the yard needs extra care if work goes ahead. You get a written estimate and a straight recommendation: repair, replace, or leave it.

    Step 3

Approve It, and Your Project Manager Takes Over

You choose the scope and the material, your project manager books the crew and keeps you posted, and the finished work gets a walkthrough with you before we call it complete.

Owners, Landlords and Apartment Roofs in Round Rock

Round Rock is split almost evenly between owners and renters. The Census Bureau's American Community Survey for 2020 to 2024 counts 48,647 occupied homes in the city: 27,016 lived in by their owners and 21,631 rented (U.S. Census Bureau, ACS table B25003). That means a lot of Round Rock roof decisions are made by landlords who may not live nearby.

The housing itself is mostly suburban, with a large apartment share. The survey counts 32,923 detached single-family houses, along with 4,451 units in buildings of 10 to 19, 4,022 in buildings of 20 to 49, and 4,308 in buildings of 50 or more (ACS table B25024). By decade, 13,813 homes went up from 2000 to 2009, 10,415 in the 1990s and 11,556 from 2010 to 2019 (ACS table B25034). The median owner-occupied home is worth $418,600 (ACS table B25077).

    • 1990s and 2000s homes (more than 24,000 of them) are old enough that any original roof is due for a hard look, storm or no storm.
    • Rental houses get photos sent to the owner, so you can see the roof without driving over.
    • Apartment and condo buildings: we roof residential, commercial and multi-family properties, with the owner or board as our contact.
    • The 2010s subdivisions mostly come to us after hail rather than age.

The September 2023 storm reached well past Round Rock. NOAA logged 2.5-inch hail in western Georgetown, tea cup size hail in Pflugerville and hail up to 2.5 inches in Austin that same day, and our crews work on Georgetown roofs that caught the September 2023 storm, on Pflugerville homes where 3-inch stones fell and on houses, rentals and commercial roofs across Austin. Cedar Park had its own turn on May 28, 2025, when a storm dropped nickel to chicken egg size hail for 20 minutes, and we handle roofing for Cedar Park neighborhoods hit that spring.

Round Rock is one stop in the territory our crews cover between Collin County, Central Texas and Austin. To book a Round Rock assessment, call (214) 766-3669.

The other day I had James Rose from SunTex do a courtesy inspection of our roof they replaced a little over a year ago. Mr. Rose was professional and knowledgeable when discussing how the drone inspection reveals no flaws or damage to the roof. I would definitely recommend SunTex to anyone look to have roof work done.

    Sara Odom

Everything was so easy from start to finish. They not only replaced the roof in 1 day but also arranged for the interior damages to be repaired and the replacement of the damaged gutters. I think this is the 4th roof we’ve had to put on this one house and by far the best company I’ve dealt with! From this point on Sun Tex will be the only roofing company I use or recommend!!

    Teri Redwine

SunTex provides unmatched customer support and response times. We moved into a new house with the previous owners creating a massive hole upon moving out. SunTex came out immediately and provided a temporary patch to mitigate damage from an incoming storm. Then came back for the official repair a few days later.

    Alex Chase

Leanne and her team do GREAT work! Fast and clean as they do your roof replacement process. Leanne and her team are very professional. They get the job done. We are very pleased with our new roof, cutters and the restoration of our fence after the Salado Tornado this past April.

Still Answering the Phone After the Storm Crews Leave

After a hail day that big, out-of-town crews tend to follow. Some of those crews do good work. Some sell a roof, install it fast and leave the area when the claims dry up. A homeowner who finds a leak a year later may have nobody to call.

We have been in business since 2022, we are 100% woman-owned, and our office at 12800 Westridge Blvd, Suite 162, Frisco, is the same address on our Google listing. Our Austin-area sales lead, Alex Keller, and our project managers are named on our About page. When you call us about a Round Rock roof two years from now, you reach the same company that worked on it.

We also try to slow the decision down. A storm week is the worst time to sign a contract on a doorstep. Get the assessment, look at the photos, compare our written estimate with any other you have, and ask your insurer the questions the photos raise.

Twenty-Two Big-Hail Reports, Only Three Storm Days

NOAA's Storm Events Database, the federal record of severe weather reports, files 24 hail reports under Round Rock between 2010 and mid-2026 (NOAA NCEI Storm Events Database). Twenty-two were an inch or larger, and all 22 came on just three days:

    • April 15, 2021: three reports, including golf ball hail at O'Connor Dr. and FM 620 and a two-inch stone elsewhere in the city.
    • April 28, 2023: three reports, including ping pong ball hail at the I-35 and Hwy 45 interchange.
    • September 24, 2023: sixteen reports, from quarter size at FM 1431 and I-35 to three-inch hail on Heather Dr. and a four-inch stone. Three of that day's narratives place the hail in Brushy Creek, just outside the city.

That pattern is the whole story of roofing in Round Rock. Years can pass without damaging hail filed under the city's name, and then one afternoon produces more big-hail reports than most cities log in a decade. NOAA also files Round Rock hail under Old Round Rock, White Stone and Hutto, and the full Round Rock hail record, including the April 2025 Teravista storm adds those reports date by date.

Questions Round Rock Owners Put to a Roofer

The questions we hear in Round Rock are practical. Does this roof need a repair or a whole new roof? How soon can you get to me when half the neighborhood needs a roofer? And what does my policy actually pay, given the deductible and depreciation?

We answer the first one with photos from your roof, not a guess from the curb. We answer the second honestly: storm weeks are busy, and we will tell you where you stand instead of making a promise we cannot keep. The third depends on your policy, and two Texas rules that shape it are explained further down.

Giant Hail and an EF2 Tornado in the Same Decade

Round Rock's roofs have taken two very different kinds of punishment in recent years.

The first is giant hail. On September 24, 2023, NOAA logged six reports of hail 2.75 inches or larger under Round Rock, including two at 3.5 inches, one at 3.75 and one at 4.00. One 3.5-inch report says the hail broke windows and windshields at a car dealership. The four-inch report notes that the storm complex caused about $700 million in hail damage across Texas, and that the Round Rock school district estimated losses of $70 million across 62 facilities, citing an Austin American-Statesman article. Stones that size crack shingles outright, punch through soft spots, and dent every gutter and vent on the way down.

The second is wind. On March 21, 2022, the Round Rock and Granger tornado started near the I-35 and Hwy 45 interchange and tracked northeast for 29 miles. NOAA's survey describes shingles torn off near the Silverstone subdivision, a few homes in the Windy Terrace and Greenlawn Place neighborhoods losing their entire roofs, and large sections of roof blown off homes in Forest Bluff off Red Bud Ln. Peak winds reached 135 mph, the high end of EF2.

Ordinary thunderstorm wind adds to it. NOAA files gusts estimated at 70 mph under Round Rock in May 2015 and again in the September 2023 storm. Wind lifts and creases shingles and breaks their seal, and that damage often shows only when the next storm finishes the job. Caught early, a few lifted shingles are a repair; left alone, they can turn into a leak and a bigger bill. The same holds for hail cracks that only start leaking a season or two later, and tracing leaks left by Round Rock's big hail days back to the shingle or boot that failed is repair work, not a reroof.

Choices to Make Early on a Round Rock Roofing Project

A few choices shape the job, and settling them at the assessment keeps the schedule clean.

Patch the Damage or Start Over

If the hail or wind damage sits on one slope and the rest of the roof is sound, a repair can be the right spend. If every slope is bruised, or new shingles would never match the old ones, a full re-roof makes more sense. We show you the photos for each slope so the reasoning is in front of you.

Shingle, Tile or Metal After Windshield-Breaking Hail

Asphalt shingles are the common choice and usually cost the least. Designer shingles give a heavier, dimensional look. Tile fits Spanish and Mediterranean elevations, and standing seam metal works on modern homes and accent roofs. No residential roof is promised to shrug off four-inch hail, so we help you weigh the look and the cost of each material against your house and your budget.

Who Approves and Who Hears About Install Day on a Rental

With more than 21,000 rented homes in Round Rock, many of our calls come from owners who do not live in the house. We agree up front who approves the estimate, who receives the photos, and how the tenant is told about install day, so nobody is surprised.

Storm Days, Claims and Old Roofs: A Round Rock Field Guide

The NOAA narratives for that afternoon read like a city map, from Sam Bass Rd. and Old Settlers Blvd. to Heather Dr. and CR 172 at TX 45. The four-inch report filed under Round Rock is tied for the largest hail NOAA has logged anywhere in Williamson County since 2010, matched only by a four-inch report at Coupland in May 2024.

September 2023 gets the attention, but Round Rock's other two big-hail days matter too. On April 15, 2021, NOAA logged golf ball hail at O'Connor Dr. and FM 620 and a two-inch stone elsewhere in the city; the same storm dropped two-inch hail on Leander and Pflugerville. On April 28, 2023, five months before the September storm, ping pong ball hail fell at the I-35 and Hwy 45 interchange, with quarter-size reports elsewhere in Round Rock.

That timing creates a real problem for claims. A roof bruised in April 2023 and hit again in September 2023 carries damage from two storms, and an adjuster may ask which one caused what. Dated photos taken soon after each storm are the only clean answer.

Small hail bruises shingles. Hail the size of baseballs and larger can crack the shingle, split the underlayment and damage the wood deck below. No one can see the deck from the ground, which is why a full re-roof takes the roof down to the sheathing. Once it is exposed, any soft, cracked or punctured boards are replaced before new underlayment goes down.

Texas Insurance Code Chapter 707 does two things a Round Rock homeowner should know about (Texas Insurance Code Chapter 707). Section 707.002 requires anyone insured under a property policy to pay the deductible on a claim. Section 707.004 lets an insurer with replacement cost coverage hold back the withheld recoverable depreciation until it gets reasonable proof that you paid the deductible, such as a canceled check or a credit card statement.

In plain terms: if a roofer offers to skip your deductible, you may not see the rest of your claim money, and the offer itself breaks Texas law. Keep the receipt for your deductible payment with the rest of your roof file.

Round Rock's September storm stripped plenty of trees as well as roofs. The Texas Department of Insurance's homeowners guide lists wind or hail damage to trees and shrubs among the losses most policies do not cover, and it advises making only temporary repairs, like a tarp, until the insurer has seen the damage (Texas Department of Insurance homeowners guide). Check your own policy, since coverages vary by company.

After the March 2022 tornado, some Round Rock roofs were replaced and some were patched. A patch over wind damage can hold for years, but patched roofs often have mismatched shingles, broken seals around the repair, and decking that was never inspected. If your house sits along the tornado's path through Windy Terrace, Greenlawn Place, South Creek or Forest Bluff and you only had a repair, it is worth a look before the next storm.

Because Round Rock's damaging hail is so concentrated, many roofs in the city go years without a storm claim. That does not mean they are young. The Census counts more than 24,000 Round Rock homes built in the 1990s and 2000s, and a house from 1998 or 2005 that still has its first roof has spent every summer since under Central Texas sun.

Age shows up differently from hail. Shingles curl at the edges and lose granules evenly across the roof instead of in dark spots. Sealant around pipe boots and flashing dries and cracks. Leaks start at the roof's weak points, like valleys, chimneys and wall joints, not across the middle of a slope. Most homeowner policies do not cover wear and tear, so if age is the problem, we will tell you that plainly. Sometimes a repair at a pipe boot or valley buys real time; sometimes the conversation becomes about planning a new roof on your schedule instead of filing a claim. That reroof runs under the city's short rule: no permit when the roof itself is not being modified, and drip edge required on every residential reroof in Round Rock.

With 21,631 rented homes in the city, Round Rock has a lot of landlords, and plenty of them live outside the Austin area. Roofing work on a rental raises its own questions: who lets the crew in, who tells the tenant, and how does the owner know the work was done as quoted?

Photo documentation answers most of that. We photograph the roof at the assessment, so you can see the damage without making the drive. Your project manager is the single contact for scheduling and updates. If the house sits on a claim, the same photos support it. On apartment, condo and other multi-family buildings, the same approach applies, with the owner or board as the contact.

Round Rock's record says another big hail day will come; it does not say when. Members of our Roof Care Program, with two roof inspections a year, get a written roof health report with photos, plus priority scheduling after severe weather. For a Round Rock homeowner, that dated record of the roof is exactly what a claim needs after the next storm.

From Signed Estimate to Swept Yard in Round Rock

Once you approve the estimate, the job runs in a set order, whether it is a repair or a full re-roof.

    01

Storm Date, Claim Status and Property Notes

We confirm which storm caused the damage, where your claim stands, and what in the yard needs protecting. For a rental, we confirm who approves and who gets updates.

    02

The Photo File and a Written Scope

We document the roof slope by slope and give you an estimate in writing, with a recommendation on repair or replacement. If insurance is involved, the photos support your claim.

    03

Cover, Work, Clean Up, Walk the Roof

On work day the property near the work area is covered first. For a repair, the damaged shingles, flashing or boots are replaced and sealed. For a re-roof, the old roof comes off, the deck is checked and repaired, and new underlayment, flashing and roofing go on. Your project manager walks the finished roof with you.

Prep Before a Round Rock Crew Arrives

A Round Rock Roof After the Hail, and After Our Crew

Before the work, a roof that went through September 2023 often shows cracked or bruised shingles, dented vent caps, gutters dimpled along their tops, and granules washing out of the downspouts.

During a re-roof the deck comes into view, and with it any boards that big hail cracked or that years of small leaks softened. Those are replaced, so the new roof sits on solid sheathing. On a repair, the damaged area is opened and checked the same way before new material goes on.

After the work, the roof is the material and color you chose, with new underlayment, flashing and ridge components wherever the scope called for them. The yard is cleaned up and the covers come off the beds and equipment.

You also end up with a record: photos of the old roof and the storm damage, the details of the work, and the paperwork from your claim. For a landlord, that file is proof of what was done to the property.

What Round Rock asks its roofer

    Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. On September 24, 2023, NOAA logged 16 reports of hail an inch or larger under Round Rock, six of them 2.75 inches or more and one at four inches. Hail that size can crack shingles and damage the deck in a single pass. If your roof went through that afternoon and has never been inspected, book a free assessment and we will tell you whether it needs a repair or a new roof.

Nothing about the facts of your roof changes. Every claim rests on the damage to that house, so get your own dated photos rather than relying on what the neighbors found. File promptly, ask for the adjuster's estimate in writing, and compare it with what is actually on your roof. We provide the photos and explain what they show.

Storm weeks are busy for every roofer, and we will not promise a date we cannot keep. We book assessments as calls come in, tell you honestly where your job stands, and your project manager keeps you updated once a date is set. Roof Care Program members get priority scheduling after severe weather.

Yes. On a full re-roof the roof comes off down to the deck, and any cracked, punctured or soft sheathing is replaced before new underlayment goes on. No estimate made from the ground can tell you the condition of the deck, so we photograph it once it is exposed.

NOAA's database holds 193 reports of hail an inch or larger in Williamson County from 2010 to mid-2026, spread over 49 storm days. Most came in April and May, with September 2023 alone accounting for 29 of them. Round Rock's share came on just three of those days.

From the ground, photograph the gutters and downspouts, any dented vents you can see, window screens, outdoor AC units, cars, and hailstones next to a coin or ruler if you can do it safely. Note the date and time. Stay off the roof; we photograph the roof itself during the free assessment.
