Roofer for Prosper Homes

Prosper's median home value, $823,700, is the highest we have measured anywhere we work, and most of its houses are young. We are the woman-owned roofing company one town south in Frisco that checks those newer roofs after hail, repairs what can be repaired, replaces what cannot, supports insurance claims with photos, and starts every job with a free assessment.

A Prosper Roofer for Houses That Still Feel New

A young roof is not a hail-proof roof. In April 2011, NOAA's records describe baseball-size hail falling on Prosper for several minutes and damaging homes, windows, cars and trees. Six years later, an amateur radio operator reported baseball-size hail just east of town. Neither storm cared how old the houses were. We are a woman-owned roofing company based in Frisco, the city right next door, and we work on new and older Prosper roofs alike, from a single dented vent to a full new roof.

  • A free roof assessment after any hailstorm, with photos of what we find.
  • Repairs when the damage is limited, and replacement when the roof is past saving.
  • Insurance restoration support when a storm is behind the work.
  • Asphalt, designer shingle, tile or standing seam metal, matched to your HOA's approved specs.

Names and Titles Behind Our Prosper Work

SunTex belongs to Leanne Tolbert and is 100% woman-owned and operated. Our office is at 12800 Westridge Blvd in Frisco, Prosper's neighbor to the south, and that is where Suade Sherman runs the office and Beth Keller runs operations. Danny Gutowski leads sales across DFW, and project managers such as Eric Sherman handle the day-to-day of each job. You can look every one of them up by name before you let anyone onto your roof.

Where We Step In on a Prosper Roof After a Storm

If you have never been through a roof claim before, here is the part of the work we carry for you, whether the roof turns out to need a repair or a replacement.

    Damage Found Before It Leaks

Hail damage on a young asphalt roof is easy to miss. We check the shingles up close, along with the metal parts that often show hail most clearly, such as vents, pipe boots, flashing and gutters, and we photograph each problem we find.

    Evidence Organized for the Adjuster

When a storm is behind the work, we document the damage with dated photos and support your insurance restoration claim. Your policy decisions stay between you and your insurer, and we keep the evidence organized so those conversations are easier.

    Your Architectural Committee's Approval

If your Prosper home sits in a neighborhood with architectural rules, we match the approved specifications before anything is ordered and will attend the HOA meeting with you if the board wants to talk it through.

Prosper Storm Checklist: Date, Visit, Decision

    Step 1

Note the Storm Date, Then Call

Write down the date you heard hail, then call (214) 766-3669 or send the form. Tell us if you have already spoken to your insurer.

    Step 2

We Inspect and Show You the Photos

We come to your Prosper address, check the roof and the metal around it, and photograph what we find. You get a written estimate and a clear answer: a repair, a new roof, or no storm damage worth claiming.

    Step 3

    Paperwork, Then the Crew

If work is needed, your project manager lines up the HOA paperwork, coordinates around the claim, books the crew and walks the finished roof with you.

Counting Prosper's Houses, Owners and Home Values

Prosper stands apart from the rest of our North Texas map on two counts: how new its houses are and what they are worth. The Census Bureau's 2020 to 2024 American Community Survey counts 11,921 housing units in the town. Only 830 of them were built before 2000, and another 2,494 went up between 2000 and 2009, so the large majority are newer than that (U.S. Census Bureau, ACS table B25034).

The same survey puts the median owner-occupied home value at $823,700, and owners live in 9,874 of the town's 11,239 occupied homes, or 87.9%. Of the 11,921 units, 10,583 are detached single-family houses.

    • Homes from the 2000s: 2,494 of them, now roughly 17 to 26 years old, where age starts to weigh on the repair-or-replace answer.
    • Homes built since 2010: the bulk of the town, where storm damage, not age, is what we check for first.
    • Owner-occupied: nearly nine in ten homes, so most roofing decisions here are made by the people who live under the roof.
    • Single-family: 10,583 detached houses, each with its own roof and its own claim when hail hits.

Prosper's storms are shared with its neighbors. On April 10, 2017, NOAA logged hail an inch or larger 2 miles west-southwest of Prosper, in Frisco, McKinney and Lewisville, and 4 miles west-northwest of Allen, all on the same day. That is why Prosper sits in one storm file with Frisco, home to our only office, McKinney roofs that take hail and wind together, Allen, where more hail reports pile up than anywhere we serve and Lewisville's rentals and condos.

Prosper is part of the towns we cover from Collin County south to Temple and Austin. To have your roof looked at after the next storm, call (214) 766-3669.

The other day I had James Rose from SunTex do a courtesy inspection of our roof they replaced a little over a year ago. Mr. Rose was professional and knowledgeable when discussing how the drone inspection reveals no flaws or damage to the roof. I would definitely recommend SunTex to anyone look to have roof work done.

Alex Keller with SunTex Roofing exceeded! SunTex gave us a great experience from start to finish. The entire crew protected our new windows, plants, AC units, garden structures and even pool. I HIGHLY recommend this Texas local roofing company.

    Sara Odom

Everything was so easy from start to finish. They not only replaced the roof in 1 day but also arranged for the interior damages to be repaired and the replacement of the damaged gutters. I think this is the 4th roof we’ve had to put on this one house and by far the best company I’ve dealt with! From this point on Sun Tex will be the only roofing company I use or recommend!!

    Teri Redwine

SunTex provides unmatched customer support and response times. We moved into a new house with the previous owners creating a massive hole upon moving out. SunTex came out immediately and provided a temporary patch to mitigate damage from an incoming storm. Then came back for the official repair a few days later.

    Alex Chase

Leanne and her team do GREAT work! Fast and clean as they do your roof replacement process. Leanne and her team are very professional. They get the job done. We are very pleased with our new roof, cutters and the restoration of our fence after the Salado Tornado this past April.

A Woman-Owned Neighbor From Westridge Blvd

We opened SunTex in 2022, and we are 100% woman-owned and operated. Our office is at 12800 Westridge Blvd, Suite 162, in Frisco, the same address as our Google listing. So the listing you find on the map and the crew at your Prosper address belong to the same company.

A neighboring office gives you a company to call when a question comes up long after the job is finished, and a team whose names and titles are published for anyone to read.

Ownership is part of who we are. Leanne Tolbert owns SunTex, and the company is woman-owned and operated from the top down. On a Prosper job, the project manager you meet at the start is the one who walks the finished roof with you.

    Prosper's Hail File Since 2011

NOAA's Storm Events Database, the federal record of severe weather, lists 17 reports of hail an inch or larger filed under Prosper between 2010 and mid-2026, spread over 13 storm days (NOAA NCEI Storm Events Database). Some of the narratives:

    • April 10, 2011: hail up to baseball size fell in the town for several minutes, damaging homes, windows, cars and trees. Winds up to 80 mph were estimated the same day.
    • April 21, 2017: an amateur radio operator reported baseball-size hail just east of Prosper, and golf ball size hail was reported near town.
    • April 6, 2018: four separate reports in the town, from quarter size to golf ball to tennis ball size.
    • November 30, 2018: a trained spotter reported half-dollar size hail in Prosper, proof that the season does not end in spring.
    • March 24, 2019: golf ball size hail near Dallas Parkway and University Drive, about a mile southwest of town.
    • March 14, 2024: part of a sheet metal roof was torn off a building and blown onto the road near North Preston Road and Hickory Creek Drive.

Taken together, the record shows inch-plus hail in Prosper in seven different years since 2010. These are the storms someone measured and reported, filed under the nearest named place. They are not a map of every roof that took a hit, and a report filed under a neighboring city can describe hail that landed on Prosper streets too.

What a Roof Has to Do on an $800,000 Prosper House

In a town where the median home is worth more than $800,000, a roof has three jobs. It has to protect a large investment through the next spring storm season. Any new roof, or any repair that shows, has to pass the HOA's review in the right material and color without holding up the work. And it has to look right on the house from the street.

Our estimate addresses all three, and we give you the photos, the material names and the work date in writing. That record matters when you sell, and it matters when the next hailstorm brings another claim. On a newer house, it also shows that storm damage was found and handled, with the date and the evidence, rather than leaving a buyer to guess.

Why Young Shingles Hide Hail Bruises in Prosper

A hailstone does not punch a hole in a newer asphalt roof. It knocks loose the mineral granules that protect the shingle from UV light and leaves a soft bruise, often invisible from the ground. The roof looks fine. Then the Texas sun goes to work on the exposed asphalt, and a leak can appear a year or two later, long after the storm date has faded from memory.

The metal on the roof tells the story faster. Vents, pipe boots, drip edges, flashing and gutters dent where hail hits them, and dented gutters are often the clearest sign of a hail event even when the shingles look intact. If your gutters or downspouts look dimpled after a storm, the shingles above them were in the same storm and deserve a close look.

Prosper's hail is big enough to matter. Of the 18 hail reports filed under the town since 2010, 7 were golf ball size or larger, and 3 were 2 inches or more.

Timing is the trap for owners of newer homes. A roof that is a few years old does not feel like a problem, so nobody checks it, and by the time water shows up inside, linking it to a specific storm is much harder.

Prosper Decisions to Make Before a Roofing Order

The choices you make before material is ordered shape how the roof handles the next storm and what it costs to insure.

Class 4 Shingles and What Insurers Credit

Impact-resistant shingles are among the options we price. The Texas Department of Insurance explains that roofing materials tested for impact resistance are rated Class 1 to 4, and a Class 4 roof covering receives the highest premium credit. Each insurer sets its own discount, decides which test results it accepts, and sets the labeling and paperwork it needs from the contractor and policyholder (Texas Department of Insurance, impact-resistant roofing credits). Call your insurer before we order, so the product and paperwork match what they will credit.

Material and Curb Appeal on a Premium Street

We install asphalt shingles, designer shingles, tile and standing seam metal. On a house at this price, the roof is a large part of the street view. Designer shingles add depth over standard asphalt, while tile and standing seam metal change the character of the house entirely, and we will price the options you are weighing in the same estimate. Our home roofing across North and Central Texas covers all four.

    Committee Review, Done Early

If your neighborhood has an HOA or architectural committee, its rules may limit material and color. We match the approved specs in our estimate, prepare what the board needs, and attend the meeting if asked. Approval before delivery keeps the job from stalling.

Owning a Newer Roof in Prosper: What to Expect

There is no age at which an asphalt roof becomes immune to hail. A roof installed three years ago and a roof installed thirty years ago both lose granules and bruise when a large stone hits them. The difference is that an older roof was already wearing out, while a newer one was not, which is exactly why storm damage on a newer roof is worth documenting. On a young roof there is little wear to confuse with the hail, so clear photos taken soon after the storm tell a simple story.

Whatever warranty came with your new home, read it for what it says about storms. We cannot tell you what your builder's document covers, because only the document can. If it excludes hail, storm damage becomes a homeowner's insurance question, and that claim runs on the storm date. Do not wait on a builder's answer before you have the roof checked and the damage photographed. If you have any paperwork that names the roofing product the builder used, keep it handy for the assessment.

Not every hail hit means a new roof. If the damage is confined to a few shingles, a dented vent cap or a cracked pipe boot, a repair may be all the roof needs, and we will say so. When the photos show bruising across several slopes, or your insurer approves a full replacement after a claim, a new roof is the answer that holds up. Either way, you see the photos before you decide.

April dominates. Of the 17 reports of inch-plus hail filed under Prosper since 2010, 11 came in April and 3 in March. The rest are spread across May, September and November, including the half-dollar hail of November 30, 2018. The worst single year in the record was 2018, with 6 of those reports.

Wind belongs in the record too. NOAA lists 5 thunderstorm wind reports under Prosper since 2010: outflow winds around 60 mph blew down fences and posts on May 4, 2012, a 60 mph gust brought down trees about 4 inches across on August 6, 2012, and an amateur radio operator reported a 69 mph gust on March 4, 2025. Wind can break the seal strip between shingles without moving them far enough to see, so a roof that took hail and wind in one season deserves a closer look than either alone.

The Texas Department of Insurance tells policyholders to tell their company as soon as possible after damage, because most companies have deadlines for filing a claim, and some policies have a one-year deadline unless you can show good cause for the delay (Texas Department of Insurance, Home insurance guide). Your own policy sets your deadline, so read it rather than relying on what a neighbor was told. Photos taken soon after the storm make it easier to connect the damage to the date.

You do not need a ladder to spot the first signs. After a storm, walk around the house and look for:

    • Shingles that are missing, curled or visibly lifted along the roofline.
    • Dented gutters, often the clearest sign that hail came through.
    • Granules piled at the base of the downspouts.
    • Dents in vent covers, pipe boots or flashing that you can see from the yard.
    • Damage to window screens or the outdoor AC unit.
    • Water stains on ceilings or walls after the next heavy rain.

Anything you find is worth a photo with the date. Leave the roof itself to us: shingle bruising, the condition of the flashing and ridge caps, and the deck all have to be checked up close, and climbing onto a storm-damaged roof is a real fall risk.

If you plan to sell, a buyer and their inspector will want to know the roof's age and history. Work done with named materials, dated photos and a clear date answers those questions before they are asked. If a recent storm damaged the roof, getting it assessed before listing tells you whether a repair, a claim or a new roof belongs in the plan. If the roof is sound, an assessment with photos still gives you something concrete to hand a buyer when the question comes up.

Roofing is our core work, but SunTex also designs and builds patios and pergolas for North Texas backyards. If shade over the back patio is on your list, mention it at the roof assessment and we can plan both projects with you.

Steps on a Prosper Storm Job, Start to Handover

From the first call to the final walkthrough, here is the order of work on a typical Prosper storm job. Every step has one person responsible for it, and you will know who that is.

    01

    When, Where and Which HOA

We ask when the hail hit, what you have noticed, whether a claim is open, and which HOA governs your street.

    02

    Shingles, Gutters and Vents Photographed

We assess the roof and the metal around it, photograph the damage, and give you a written estimate and a recommendation: repair, replace, or leave it alone. If there is a claim, the photos support it.

    03

    Sign-Off, Crew Day and Handover

Your project manager handles the HOA submission, confirms the crew date, checks in while the work is under way and walks the finished roof with you.

The Week Before Our Crew Arrives

For a full new roof, a little preparation helps:

A Storm-Hit Prosper Roof, Then and Now

Before: a newer Prosper roof that took a spring hailstorm can look perfect from the street. The evidence is in the details: granules washed into the downspouts, dimples in the gutters, a dented vent cap, dark spots on the shingles where the surface was knocked loose.

After a repair: the damaged shingles, cap or boot are replaced to match the roof around them, and the photos show the spot before and after. After a replacement: the damaged roof is gone and the new one is the material and color your HOA approved. If you chose an impact-rated product, you have the label details your insurer asked for.

The paperwork changes too. You keep photos of the damage, the claim documentation and the specifics of the work, and that file goes with the house when you sell. If another storm comes through next spring, you also have a clear picture of what the roof looked like on the day it was finished.

Keeping it documented is easy from there. Our Roof Care Program gives members two inspections a year with a written roof health report and photos, priority scheduling after storms, and preferred pricing on repairs.

    Frequently Asked Questions

We repair and replace roofs on Prosper houses, in asphalt shingles, designer shingles, tile and standing seam metal, and we roof commercial and multi-family buildings too. After a storm we photograph the damage and support your insurance restoration claim, and in HOA neighborhoods we match the approved specifications and will attend the board meeting with you. Every job starts with a free roof assessment and a written estimate.

Yes. Hail knocks the protective granules off asphalt shingles and bruises them whatever their age, and Prosper has the reports to prove it: NOAA records baseball-size hail falling on the town in April 2011 and just east of it in April 2017. The damage is often invisible from the ground, so have the roof assessed after any storm with hail, even if the house is only a few years old. Dented gutters or granules at the bottom of a downspout are good reasons to call.

Only your warranty document can say what the builder covers, so read the section on storms or ask the builder in writing. If storm damage is excluded, it becomes a question for your homeowner's insurance, and that claim depends on the storm date. Do not wait on the builder before getting the roof assessed and the damage photographed, because the two run on different clocks.

They may. The Texas Department of Insurance says a Class 4 roof covering receives the highest premium credit, but each insurance company sets its own discount and decides which tests, labels and paperwork it accepts. Ask your insurer what it requires before we order materials, and we will make sure the product and paperwork match. A discount is not guaranteed, so get the answer in writing if the premium matters to your choice.

If your neighborhood has an HOA or architectural committee, check its guidelines, because roofing material and color are common items that need approval, and that can apply to a visible repair as well as a new roof. We match the approved specifications in our estimate, help you put the request together, and will attend the board meeting with you if needed. Approval before the material is delivered keeps the job on schedule.

As soon as you can, for both. The Texas Department of Insurance advises telling your company as soon as possible, notes that most companies have deadlines for filing claims, and says some policies have a one-year deadline unless you can show good cause for a delay. Your own policy sets the exact rule. Booking a free assessment soon after the storm gets the damage photographed while the date is clear, and gives you something concrete to describe when you call your insurer.
