Belton Roofing Company

Belton is a small city with a big-hail record: on March 28, 2014, hail NOAA measured at 4.25 inches fell here and broke windows near Belton High School. Our woman-owned company's Central Texas team repairs and replaces roofs on Belton homes, businesses and apartment buildings, photographs every hail mark on a free assessment, and supports storm insurance claims.

Big-Hail Damage, Small-Job Fixes: Roofing Work in Belton

Since 2010, NOAA has filed 12 hail reports of golf ball size or larger under Belton's name. When a storm like that passes, some roofs need replacing and some only need a repair, and the job of a good assessment is to tell those apart honestly. Our Central Texas team handles Belton, from a single lifted section of flashing to a whole new roof.

  • A Central Texas project manager from the first visit to the final walkthrough.
  • Repairs when the damage is limited, and replacement when it is not.
  • Photos of every hail mark and loose shingle we find.
  • A free assessment and written estimate before you decide anything.

    Who covers Belton

Alex, Travis and Alison: Our People in Belton

Alex Keller, our Central Texas and Austin sales manager, typically handles the first visit to a Belton home. Travis Gardenhire and Alison Gardenhire are our Central Texas project managers, and one of them runs the job once you approve it. Leanne Tolbert owns the company, which is 100% woman-owned, and our office in Frisco handles scheduling and paperwork for every job.

Concierge Service on a Belton Roofing Job

Our concierge service means you make the choices and we handle the work around them. On a Belton job, repair or replacement, that comes down to three things.

Same Project Manager, Visit to Walkthrough

The same project manager schedules your crew, answers your questions and walks the finished work with you. You will not be passed between departments, and if something changes on the schedule, you hear it from the person who made the change.

    Hail-Minded Material Advice

We install asphalt shingles, designer shingles, tile and standing metal, and we offer impact-resistant roofing materials. In a city with Belton's hail record, we talk through how each option handles a storm before you choose.

    Dated Photos Behind Your Claim

We photograph the damage during the assessment and support your insurance restoration claim with those photos. Decisions about your coverage stay between you and your insurer.

Getting Our Team Onto a Belton Roof

    Step 1

Give Us the Storm Date, or Your Best Guess

Call (214) 766-3669 or use the form. If you know which storm did the damage, give us the date. If you do not, tell us what you have noticed: granules in the gutters, a dented vent, a stain on a ceiling, or simply a roof you know is old.

    Step 2

Our Central Texas Team Takes a Look

We come to your Belton home, look over the roof and its metal parts, and photograph what we find. You get a written estimate and a clear call on repair or replacement, with the photos to show why.

    Step 3

The Work Goes Ahead, Then We Walk It

Once you approve the estimate, your project manager books the crew, keeps you posted and walks the finished work with you.

8,895 Homes, Two Building Eras: Belton's Housing

Belton is small next to most cities we serve. The Census Bureau's 2020 to 2024 American Community Survey counts 8,895 housing units here (U.S. Census Bureau, ACS table B25034). The housing splits into two eras: 3,358 units were built before 1980, and 2,626 have been built since 2010. In between sit 1,039 homes from the 1990s and 1,184 from the 2000s, and the median Belton home dates from 1994.

The median value of an owner-occupied Belton home is $258,700, and 4,662 of the city's 8,328 occupied homes are lived in by their owners.

    • Homes built before 1980 are the likeliest to hide older layers and worn decking.
    • The 1990s and 2000s homes are reaching the age when original roofs come due.
    • The post-2010 homes are young enough that hail, not age, is the usual reason for roof work.
    • Most Belton housing is single-family: 5,414 detached houses.

Belton's storms rarely stop at the city line. On April 12, 2022, the afternoon that brought 3-inch hail just southwest of Belton, NOAA also logged golf ball hail about 3 miles east of Temple and at Fort Hood near Killeen. We work all around Belton, from wind-tested roofs in Temple to the northeast to homes across Harker Heights and Killeen's older, affordable houses to the west, and north up I-35 to Waco's older housing stock.

Belton is part of the Central Texas patch in a service area that runs from Bell County north to Collin County and south to Austin. Call (214) 766-3669 for a Belton assessment.

    Sara Odom

Everything was so easy from start to finish. They not only replaced the roof in 1 day but also arranged for the interior damages to be repaired and the replacement of the damaged gutters. I think this is the 4th roof we’ve had to put on this one house and by far the best company I’ve dealt with! From this point on Sun Tex will be the only roofing company I use or recommend!!

    Teri Redwine

SunTex provides unmatched customer support and response times. We moved into a new house with the previous owners creating a massive hole upon moving out. SunTex came out immediately and provided a temporary patch to mitigate damage from an incoming storm. Then came back for the official repair a few days later.

Who Stands Behind the Work in Belton

SunTex Roofing and Reconstruction has been in business since 2022. We are 100% woman-owned and operated, owned by Leanne Tolbert, and our sales managers and project managers are named on our About page, including the three who cover Central Texas.

Our one office is at 12800 Westridge Blvd, Suite 162, Frisco, TX 75035, which matches our Google Business Profile. Our Central Texas team works the Bell County cities in person, while scheduling and paperwork run through that office.

For a Belton homeowner, a named team matters after a big storm. Big hail can bring roofers from far away, and not all of them stay. You want a company whose people you can name and call back when a question comes up long after the job.

We roof homes, commercial buildings and multi-family properties, we handle repairs as well as replacements, and the assessment and estimate are free.

Storm Reports That Name Belton Streets and Schools

NOAA's Storm Events Database holds 27 hail reports filed under Belton between 2010 and mid-2026 (NOAA NCEI Storm Events Database). Twenty-four were an inch or larger, falling on 9 separate storm days, and 12 were golf ball size or bigger. The entries name places in town:

    • March 28, 2014: softball-size hail and strong winds blew out windows in several houses in the Dawson Ranch subdivision near Belton High School. Baseball-size hail damaged many vehicles along Highway 190, and golf ball hail was reported at Highway 190 and FM 1670 west of town.
    • May 8, 2014: ping pong ball hail at the Bell County Expo Center and golf ball hail in the Miller Heights area.
    • April 28, 2016: broadcast media reported golf ball hail west of Belton High School.
    • April 12, 2022: a trained spotter reported 3-inch hail just southwest of Belton, with 2-inch and 2.25-inch reports a few miles west-southwest.
    • May 12, 2024: a photo relayed by broadcast media showed golf ball to egg size hail in Belton.

Wind adds to the list. In October 2013, NOAA's narrative says about half the trees in Yettie Polk Park were uprooted or heavily damaged, and the park had to close.

These reports come from spotters, media and residents who measured what fell where they stood. They do not cover every Belton street a storm crossed.

Repair, Material, Timing: Post-Storm Choices for Belton Owners

Roof work in Belton usually comes down to a few decisions, and they are easier to make with the facts in front of you.

The first is whether the roof needs replacing at all. After big hail, some roofs are finished and some can be repaired, and the answer depends on how widespread the damage is. We give you that answer with photos.

The second, if the roof does need replacing, is what goes back on. In a city where golf ball hail is on record more than once, it is worth talking about metal or impact-resistant shingles, and about whether your insurer offers anything for them.

The third is timing, especially when a claim is involved. Work done soon after a documented storm makes a simpler claim than work done years later. We help you get the dates and photos in order before work starts.

Stones Larger Than Softballs, and What They Break

The Storm Prediction Center's hail size chart puts baseball-size hail at 2.75 inches, tea cup size at 3.00, softball at 4.00 and grapefruit at 4.50 (NOAA Storm Prediction Center hail size chart). Belton's 4.25-inch stone on March 28, 2014 sits between softball and grapefruit, and the 3-inch report of April 12, 2022 is tea cup size.

Hail that size does not just scuff shingles. NOAA's own narrative for the 2014 storm records windows blown out of houses, which gives a sense of the force involved. Shingles can crack or split, the mat underneath can fracture, and metal vents, flashing and gutters can be dented or torn.

Smaller hail matters too. Golf ball hail, 1.75 inches on the same chart, appears in Belton's record in 2014, 2016, 2022 and 2024, and it can bruise shingles and knock granules loose without leaving an obvious hole. The damage shows up later, as a leak during a summer storm.

Wind is the other half. On March 28, 2014, NOAA recorded wind with the hail, and in October 2014 a social media report described the metal roof of a storage unit blown off in Belton.

Choosing What Goes Back On a Belton Roof

When a hailstorm leaves a roof past repair, three choices shape the new one.

Standing Metal Versus Shingles in Hail Country

Both are on our list, along with designer shingles and tile. Shingles and metal show hail differently: shingles lose granules, crack or bruise, while metal panels dent. Before you choose, ask your agent how your policy treats hail dents on a metal roof, and ask us how each option suits your house and your budget.

Impact-Resistant Options and What Your Insurer Asks

We offer impact-resistant roofing materials. The Texas Department of Insurance suggests homeowners consider roofing materials less likely to be damaged by wind, hail or fire, and notes that some insurers give a discount for them. Call your insurer before ordering to find out what they require and whether a discount applies.

Fixing It Now or Starting Over

If the damage is limited, a repair may be all the roof needs. If hail damaged several slopes, or the roof was already near the end of its life, replacing it now can save paying for repairs twice. We give you both options when both are honest.

Belton Roofing Questions We Answer on Site

The median Belton home was built in 1994, so many houses here are around 30 years old, and any original roof on them is just as old. Age changes more than the roof itself. The Texas Department of Insurance warns that as roofs age, some insurers switch coverage from replacement cost to actual cash value, and a company might decline to cover a roof in poor condition at all. Your insurer should tell you when that happens, so read your renewal (Texas Department of Insurance, replacing your roof).

TDI is also clear that an insurer will not pay for a new roof just because it is old or worn out. If your 1990s roof is tired and has also been through a storm, the storm damage is the part a claim covers. An assessment with photos helps you see which is which.

Most hail damage is up close, not visible from the curb. From the ground or a stable ladder, look for:

    • granules collecting in gutters and at the bottom of downspouts,
    • dents in gutters, vent caps and metal flashing,
    • cracked or missing shingles, and
    • new stains on ceilings or in the attic.

Leave the roof itself to us. Walking a hail-damaged roof is dangerous, and foot traffic can add damage of its own.

On a Belton roof, the metal often tells us more than the shingles. Vent caps, flashing, drip edge and gutters dent where hail hits them, and the size and spacing of those dents show how large the stones were and which direction the storm came from. That matters for a claim, because it ties the damage to a storm rather than to age. We photograph those parts on every assessment. On a repair, damaged pieces can often be swapped on their own; on a replacement estimate, we list them so they go with the roof.

Your policy sets its own deadline for reporting damage, so read it or ask your agent before assuming a storm is too old to claim. The practical problem is proof. The longer the gap between a storm and a claim, the harder it is to show that a particular storm caused a particular leak, especially in a place like Belton, where big hail has fallen in 2014, 2016, 2022 and 2024.

That is why we photograph what we find on every assessment and note the dates of the storms that line up with the damage. If you are unsure whether old hail damage is still worth claiming, start with the assessment and your policy.

April 12, 2022 shows what a single Bell County afternoon can do. While 3-inch hail fell just southwest of Belton, NOAA logged a social media photo of a hailstone more than 5.6 inches across in Salado, and a tornado that crossed southern Bell County along FM 2843. Near Buttermilk Road, the survey found homes with all or most of their roofs removed, and the tornado lifted shortly after it passed Union Grove Park and moved onto Stillhouse Hollow Lake.

A day like that leaves wide damage, and the roofs that were not destroyed may still carry hail or wind damage nobody has checked. If your Belton home came through a storm like that without an inspection, an assessment is overdue.

Of the 24 Belton hail reports of an inch or more since 2010, 12 came in April, 6 in May and 5 in March. November has had one as well, in 2022. Spring is the main season, but not the only one, so check the roof after any storm with hail, whatever the month.

Some Texas policies carry a different deductible for wind and hail than for other damage. The Texas Department of Insurance suggests asking your agent about it before you need it, because a separate wind and hail deductible can mean paying more out of pocket after a storm. In a city with Belton's hail record, it is worth checking at your next renewal, not on the day the adjuster arrives. Whatever the amount, the deductible is yours to pay under Texas law, and we will not offer to waive or cover it.

Storms here do not spare businesses. NOAA records wind damage to a restaurant in Belton in June 2019, and in October 2014 the metal roof of a storage unit was blown off. Belton also has apartment buildings: the Census survey counts 633 units in buildings of 50 or more and another 661 in buildings of 10 to 49 units. We roof residential, commercial and multi-family properties, and on a larger building our Central Texas team brings the same photos, written estimate and single project manager as on a house.

Not every Belton call ends in a new roof. A few missing shingles after wind, one leaking pipe boot or a lifted section of flashing can be repaired, and we will say so when that is the honest answer. Both kinds of work run through our residential roofing for Belton houses, with the same photos and the same written estimate.

Our Belton Roofing Process, Step by Step

Here is what happens after you reach out.

    01

    Storm, House and Insurer Questions

When you call (214) 766-3669, we ask what you have noticed, which storm you suspect, roughly when the house was built and whether you have talked to your insurer. If you already have an adjuster's estimate, keep it handy; we can compare it with what we find on the roof.

    02

    The Central Texas Team Arrives

We assess the roof and its metal, photograph the damage and give you a written estimate with a recommendation: repair, replace or leave it alone. If a claim is involved, the photos support it.

    03

    Crew Work and a Walkthrough

Your Central Texas project manager confirms the crew date, stays in touch during the work and walks the finished roof with you, pointing out what was fixed or replaced and why. If you want the roof inspected on a schedule, ask about the Roof Care Program.

Readying Your Belton Home for the Crew

A Belton Roof Before the Next Hail Season and After Our Work

Before the work, a Belton roof that has seen big hail often looks normal from the street. Up close the story is different: granules in the gutters, dented vents, a few cracked shingles on the side that faced the storm, and maybe a ceiling stain that appeared months after the hail.

After a repair, the cracked shingles and dented metal that let water in are replaced, and the photos tell you how much life the rest of the roof has left. After a replacement, the damaged roofing is gone, the decking has been checked while it was exposed, and new underlayment, flashing and roofing are in place. If you chose an impact-resistant material, ask your insurer what proof it needs before any discount applies.

You also have a record. Photos of the old roof, the storm damage and the finished work stay with the house, which helps when you sell and when the next storm brings another claim.

For owners who want that record kept current, the Roof Care Program gives members two inspections a year, a written roof health report with photos and priority scheduling after storms.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Everything, because at that size damage is close to certain. The Storm Prediction Center's chart places 4.00 inches at softball size, and Belton's March 28, 2014 storm produced a 4.25-inch report along with windows blown out of houses. Hail like that can crack and split shingles, fracture the mat underneath and tear or dent metal vents, flashing and gutters. Have the roof assessed after any storm in that range, even if nothing leaks yet, because cracked shingles and a fractured mat can take months to show up as a ceiling stain.

We recommend what fits your house, your budget and your insurer. Shingles and metal show hail differently: shingles lose granules and crack, while metal dents. We install both, along with impact-resistant options. Ask your insurer how it treats each material and whether a discount applies, then compare the options with us during the assessment. Designer shingles and tile are on the table too, and the right answer depends as much on the house as on the hail.

Your policy sets the deadline, so read it or ask your agent. Even where a late claim is allowed, proving that a specific storm caused the damage gets harder with time, especially in a city that has had big hail several years over. What we can add is an assessment with photos and the storm dates that line up with the damage, which is the best place to start.

Not automatically a new one. Age alone does not decide it, and the Texas Department of Insurance notes that insurers will not pay for a new roof just because it is old. What matters is the roof's condition and storm history. If the roof is original, a free assessment tells you whether it has years left, needs a repair, or is due for replacement.

Typically Alex Keller, our Central Texas and Austin sales manager, handles the first visit. If you go ahead, one of our Central Texas project managers, Travis Gardenhire or Alison Gardenhire, runs the job and walks the finished roof with you. Scheduling and paperwork are handled by our office in Frisco, so you always have a number to call.

Yes, after any storm with hail or strong wind, and especially after golf ball size hail or larger. The Texas Department of Insurance tells homeowners to check the roof for missing or damaged shingles after a storm and to have it inspected every few years. Our assessment is free, so there is no reason to guess about a roof after a storm.
